After spending 2013 failing to get a single race blog up, here goes possibly the fastest and simplest race review.
Am I happy with 5th place at 70.3 Aix en Provence? Not really.
Did I have a bad run up of training? Definitely not.
Did the French strikes give me a bit of hassle getting here? Yup. I have a large dent in my wallet.
Did I have a shocker swim? Absolutely not, 50s down on Gina Crawford I’ll take that (Thanks to my husband for working on my swim on our honeymoon. True story!)
Did I know the course well? Very.
Did I get too hot? Nope.
Did I get dehydrated? No.
Did I nail my nutrition? Yep.
Did I fall off my bike? No. A puncture? No
Did my chain fall off? Of course not.
Did I suffer on the bike? Uh huh!
Did I have a lovely new fast bike? Yes (Thanks The Triathlon Shop & Orbea)
Did I stop and ask for directions? Nope, but I definitely just heard someone in the hotel lobby say that.
Did I slow down from last year? Yes, somehow!
Would I have gone faster if I remembered my lucky nail polish? Umm, no.
Was this year more competitive? Yes.
Do I still think it’s a great race, course and location? Definitely, one of the most beautiful spots.
Did I learn a lot? Yes.
Did the cobwebs get a blasting? Hell yeah!
Am I hungry for the next race? Absolutely!
Not my finest race, but probably not my worst. Well done to all the other girls, Jeanne for a stonking 1.18 run, Tine for always smiling and smashing the bike, Gina for doing the triple week 70.3 and Tamsin a great bike despite falling off.
Thanks so much to all the guys at The Good Whey Co. & Upbeat for helping me find an alternative, albeit long route to Aix en Provence and my husband for finding his way here no matter what.
